Friends’ School Victorious in Medallion Shield Clash Friends’ School Medallion XV overcame a resilient Cambridge House side in round two of the Medallion Shield on a cold and wet day in Lisburn. Cambridge House, playing with the wind in the first half scored 11 points without answer, two penalties and an unconverted try. Towards the end of the half excellent work by prop Cameron Loan saw the ball delivered to the hands of out half Reece Malone who chipped a clever kick through to outside centre Stuart Patterson to score in the corner.

Following the half time interval Friends’ started on the front foot. Excellent work by the pack allowed scrum half Harry Reid to deliver the ball to Reece Malone who ghosted past a number of defenders to score in the corner. With the scores at 10-11 Friends’ seemed incapable of breaking down the stubborn resistance of the Ballymena side. With ten minutes remaining the FSL front eight began to pile the pressure on the opposition, this eventually led to Number Eight, Sam Greer breaking from the back of a ruck to score in the corner, making the score 15-11.

Despite a titanic effort by the Cambridge team the Friends’ defence stood resolute, eventually forcing the opposition to concede a penalty for holding onto the ball. Credit must go to the boys for the nature of the comeback and the coaching team who were pleased with the grit and determination shown by the side.
