  • Welcome to Friends' School Lisburn
Friends’ is one of nine Quaker schools in Britain and Ireland and shares a common heritage with each of them. Although the School has grown and changed since its foundation in 1774, the Quaker belief in care for the individual and in the importance of the development of each person's potential remains central to our ethos and helps us to cater successfully for the different traditions in the Lisburn area. We hope you enjoy exploring our website and finding out more about what goes on in School.

Other Programmes reflecting our ethos

Other Programmes reflecting our outward –looking ethos Friends’ has the full Green Flag Award and continues to promote sustainable living through the curriculum. Young Enterprise – The Sixth Form group won the Northern Ireland Regional heat and competed in London as United Kingdom finalists. The group developed a children’s booklet: “Around the World in 50 pages” with fun activities, language and cultural points of interest about 50 different countries. The book has been widely acclaimed locally and a local bookshop (W H Smith) and toyshop are considering publication.

Developing from Facing History and the Citizenship Programme – The School has applied for Government funding from “Shared Education” to work on a three-year cross-community project which we hope to link to our projects with our South Africa and USA partner schools. The Religious Studies Department has developed a link with a school in India with the organisation Face to Faith, to be developed over the next year. We are also currently working with another local school to introduce Mandarin as part of our Sixth Form Enrichment Programme next year, buying into funding received from the British Council.

STEM – We received funding last year to lead a cross-phase Science/CEIAG project which has allowed our staff and pupils to consolidate further the strong curriculum links we have with our local community and this year 2015-16 are involved in a Literacy and Numeracy CPD project with three local Primary Schools. International Awareness is promoted in many of the School’s extracurricular activities such as French and German debating, Community Service , both local and international), involvement in Model United Nations; Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme; Sentinus IT and Engineering; Kits Lit Quiz; Lisburn Arts Awards. Many pupils achieve national level in Sport; Sans Frontieres International Competition; Maths Kangorou. Work Experience – links with Eurodisney; CSC Computer Company, Paris; Schools in Lyon, Zaragoza; United Nations – Brussels. Careers – Visits by former pupils living and working abroad; links and visits to other Quaker Schools both in the United Kingdom and Australia.
