Year 8 Pupils enjoy success in Toyota Technology Challenge
Five pupils in Year 8 have been successful in winning through to the Regional Final of the Toyota Technology Challenge. Robert Harrison, Amna Omer, Christopher Walker, Matthew Taylor and Jason Steenson, are all members of the ‘B Environmental’ Team which entered the competition last October.
The Toyota Technology Challenge is a national competition aimed at Key Stage 3 & 4 for Design and Technology pupils. The challenge invites them to design and build an environmentally friendly model vehicle and apply knowledge and understanding from a wide range of curriculum subjects. There are two categories to the challenge: the Solar power category and the PIC microcontroller category.
The pupils entered the Solar power category, which was not just limited to the design and manufacture of a solar car that would travel the 8m track in the shortest time. They also had to produce and submit a folder which included sections such as Research, Specification, Initial Ideas, Product Planning, and Testing.
The pupils were delighted when they heard that their folder work ensured that they are one of only three teams from Northern Ireland to make it through to the next stage of the competition. They are now rehearsing and modifying their verbal presentation which they will give in Wales on 22nd April. We wish the pupils well as they prepare for this Regional Final.
