In a week when Northern Ireland was enveloped in political crisis, there was one more positive announcement. On Tuesday 26th January the Northern Ireland Youth Assembly was finally launched. This was after over two years of development through workshops with people throughout Northern Ireland. A number of Friends’ pupils were lucky to be involved in this and on Tuesday, Peter Moorhead and Stuart Hughes, were invited to the launch of this exciting new initiative. There was the opportunity to talk to a number of local politicians and other stakeholders who had played a vital role in the development of the youth assembly.
A Youth Panel is being recruited to develop policy proposals for the Youth Assembly. If you are aged 16-18 and want to have a greater say in issues that affect you then nominate yourself for the Youth Panel. Anyone working with Young People should also be encouraged to pass on information about this exciting new initiative. More information can be found at http://www.niassembly.gov.uk/youthassembly.htm
