A number of pupils from the Friends’ School Cross Country Club took part in the South Antrim District Cross Country competition which was held at Ormeau Park on 2 February. The following pupils qualified as individuals for the Aviva Ulster Schools Cross Country Championships to be held at Mallusk on 24 February: Thomas Latimer, who finished 13th in the Minor Boys, Michael England, 12th in the Intermediate Boys and Erin Carruthers, placed 6th in the Intermediate Girls’ event. Two Friends’ teams also qualified for the Ulster finals – the Minor Girls’ team of Year 8 pupils Lydia Currie (20th), Holly Beckett (9th), Chloe Gilkinson (23rd), Rachael Foreman (25th) and Holly Dunseith(24th) finished in 3rd place overall. The Junior Girls’ team of Katie Conn (1st), Caragh Milliken (DNF), Megan Armstrong (47th), Lauren Gourley (18th), Julia Finlay (16th) , Julia Mitchell (49th) and Hannah McFall (46th) also qualified in 3rd place. Year 10 pupil Katie Conn is looking forward to defending her Ulster Schools’ title at Mallusk at the end of February.
