Year 11 pupils in Friends’ School were delighted to take part in an interactive drama workshop on Thursday 25 March held in School.
The workshop was organised through the Beam Creative Workshop organisation in conjunction with the District Policing Partnership and took as its theme Anti-Social Behaviours.
The facilitators from Beam were Stephen Kelly and Paul Henry and their aim was to raise pupils’ awareness of what constitutes antisocial behaviour; to explore attitudes towards it and to inform pupils regarding consequences.
Two hours of group activities and games alongside follow up discussions allowed pupils to reflect on their own experiences; explore the pressures that young people face and discuss various ways of countering such behaviours.
Megan Esler, a Year 11 pupil, commented, “I really enjoyed the afternoon and I felt that I learned more about bullying and the awful effects it can have”; and Sarah Whittaker, 15, said, “It was good to have what we learned in class supported by the PSNI. It really opened my eyes to the potential dangers here in our own community and what we can do to keep ourselves safe”
Overall, the afternoon was a great success and evaluations completed at the end of the workshop reported that pupils had thoroughly enjoyed its interactive nature and the very informative and valuable input by the PSNI regarding the very serious consequences that such behaviours can have.
