 Young Environmentalist Group

The Young Environmentalist Group from Friends’ School Lisburn had double success in the Eco Unesco Young Environmentalist’s awards 2010. The group’s project, called ‘Spring into Action’ continued work on Biodiversity, which they had began the previous year.
Their project work was extensive and action based. It involved creating herb and vegetable gardens, growing native species plants to encourage insects, building and locating bird boxes, bat boxes and swift boxes and creating a biodiversity trail in the school grounds. In addition the pupils raised awareness of biodiversity through school assemblies and links with local primary schools.
They entered the Junior section of the competition and were short listed to attend the final in Dublin, held on 12th May. Here the students showcased their work and were rewarded with both a win in the Junior Biodiversity category and were also overall Junior winners.
