 SU Weekend 2010
SU Weekend 2010

Friends’ School Junior SU Weekend was held recently with 45 pupils heading to Ardnabannon to enjoy a weekend full of fun activities and worship. On Friday evening we arrived at school excited and ready to go. After the bus journey we arrived. We had time to unpack and get ready before evening worship where some upper sixth pupils gave their testimonies. After the meeting we went outside to play “Extreme Hunt the Leader.” Unfortunately we were unable to find Mr Cunningham who took hunt the leader to a whole new level.
On Saturday we were split into 2 groups, Year 8 and 9 and then Year 10. We went to do 2 different activities, Castlewellan Maze and Bouldering. The Year 10s went to Castlewellan first and we did a range of different activities from finding a tennis ball inside a sock in the maze to Danish Longball. The Year 8s and 9s went bouldering in the morning with a few teachers including Mr Murphy, Mr Cunningham and Miss Gillespie. In the afternoon we swapped activities. Bouldering was a great experience with a few slips and falls along the way. At the top we all had the opportunity to jump in off some high rocks including the chance to watch the Matron and Mr Robinson which was very entertaining.
When we came back we had a delicious meal. We all then had the opportunity to watch the World Cup when England and USA drew 1-1 or have free time. We then had a meeting where Rachel Young from Christians in Sport came to talk to us. Then we had a talent show which included a very diverse range of talent from gymnastics to comedy. The teachers gave a very interesting performance which none of us will ever forget. Special guest judges added to the atmosphere with the funny Mr Murphy, lovely Matron and harsh Mr Cunningham. To end the evening some lower sixths entertained us with a quiz which had some interesting consequences.
On Sunday everyone was very tired after not much sleep! After our breakfast we got packed up, had a meeting where another couple of upper sixths gave their testimony. We then began orienteering around the beautiful grounds of Ardnabannon and when we had completed this task we had the chance to go on a zip wire. We got in our harnesses and made our way up a steep hill (which Miss Deboys was soon to have a tumble down). We all climbed up the ladder to Andy who was our guide for the weekend and stepped off the wooden platform to fly across the zip wire giving us all an adrenaline rush.
This ended our weekend on a high (literally) and gave us many memories. On this weekend we also made more friends and became closer to everyone. Overall this weekend was awesome and included thrilling experiences.
We would like to thank all of the teachers who gave up their weekend to come with us and to Mr Robinson who did a great job at organising a wonderful weekend.
