The Yellow tasks are the most straightforward and are based primarily on the casualty list although some can be completed from the database. It can be downloaded as a Word document and searched using the “Find” command on the drop down “Edit” menu or on the tool bar at the top of the page. The Record Sheet includes instructions on how to complete the questions.

The Red Tasks are a bit more time consuming and demanding. They involve using the online search facility for the database although reading the relevant text from the the casualty list might also help.

The Green Tasks are much more extensive. There are seven in all, each one dealing with a different aspect of the war ranging from “Background” and “Recruitment” to “Impact” and “Commemoration”. All are based on both the database and casualty list but also require a greater use of the pupil’s own knowledge. They can be used individually or worked through as a set to give an overall impression of the impact of the War.

Sources: A short selection of sources has been included to provide some assistance in completing the tasks. Most (E to L) are about recruitment. However, three (B, C and D) deal with the basic structure of the army and it may be necessary for pupils to read these in order to understand some of the information they are working with.
