Year 10

In class and through regular home works, pupils in Year 10 are presented with tasks which continue to develop their artistic responses and skills. Opportunities are created to further develop independent learning and an increasing sense of purpose through a more personal approach to Art and Design. The theme of “Personal Identity” is explored during the year, with value placed on creating individual and meaningful work and on creating it with increasing confidence. All units allow pupils to further develop their recording skills across a range of materials and processes.
Increasing importance is placed on pupils placing their work in context through exploring the work of artists, designers and craft workers. As part of the Architecture/Ceramics Unit, the ceramics of Chris Gryder are used as inspiration, developing the pupils’ awareness of employment opportunities within the creative industries.
It is the aim of the Art and Design department to extend and develop the creative skills of each pupil through a wide ranging, challenging and varied programme to prepare them for a confident transition to the G.C.S.E. course, should they decide to continue with the subject in Year 11.
