In 2004 Joy Haydock achieved full marks in her CCEA A Level examinations and came first in Northern Ireland. This achievement was recognised and rewarded by The Institute of Biology. In 2009, Tristan Holdsworth was the top student in GCSE Biology, coming first in Northern Ireland. In 2012 Fiona Cunningham was second in GCE A level Biology in Northern Ireland. In 2014 Joshua Alexander was placed 3rd in GCE Biology and as a result of his outstanding performance across the three sciences he was awarded second place in the Hans Sloane awards.Within the school grounds there is a wildlife garden and school pond, both providing a useful teaching resource. Environmental work has been undertaken by the ‘Young Environmentalist’ group who have been very successful in the ECO UNESCO Young Environmentalist Awards. Over the past few years an Eco Committee has been actively working hard to reduce litter and waste and promote recycling within the school environment. In May 2013 the Committee submitted an application for the internationally recognised Green Flag Award. Assessment took place in October 2013 and the Green Flag was awarded to the school. The Eco Committee spans all year groups but is led by senior pupils providing opportunities to show initiative, and to develop teamwork and leadership skills.
