Maths Club

Maths Club is mainly attended by pupils from Years 8 - 10 but senior pupils also meet.  The Club is staffed by members of the Maths Department.  Students enjoy doing puzzles and come to the Maths Club to do similar tasks.  Students also prepare for the UK Junior, Intermediate and Senior Mathematics Challenges and the Junior and Senior Team Maths Challenges.  In 2015 - 2016 both the Junior and Senior Maths Teams won their Northern Ireland regional final and went on to represent the school at the national final in London.  Also at Maths Club students play Countdown and solve other maths based puzzles. In the past students have also prepared for the National Cipher Challenge and taken part in Maths Week in Ireland events. In March 2019, the Maths department celebrated Pi Day and ran a competition to see who could remember the most digits of pi. Finlay Crawford in Year 10 won the Key Stage 3 competition with 100 decimal places and Ryan Kirkpatrick in Year 13 won the Key Stage 4 and 5 competition by recalling an astounding 205 decimal places.
