FSL 6th Form Flyer 2024

  • Welcome to Friends' School Lisburn
Friends’ is one of nine Quaker schools in Britain and Ireland and shares a common heritage with each of them. Although the School has grown and changed since its foundation in 1774, the Quaker belief in care for the individual and in the importance of the development of each person's potential remains central to our ethos and helps us to cater successfully for the different traditions in the Lisburn area. We hope you enjoy exploring our website and finding out more about what goes on in School.

Charity Committee

Charity Committee: Winter Term 2015

Since September the Charity Committee has held a number of hugely successful charity campaigns within school. Once again, as in previous years, the whole school community has shown outstanding generosity, terrific cooperation and great willingness to help others. Quaker Wristbands At the beginning of the year, the charity committee sold ‘Quakers Live Adventurously’ wristbands and badges to promote Quaker Week with all money going towards the Quaker Appeal. A huge thanks to all the pupils and staff who purchased the wrist bands.

Jeans for Genes Day

Our first charity event of the school year, Jeans for Genes Day, was held in September. Staff and pupils raised a massive £2100 through wearing denim to show their support for the campaign. The money raised will go towards improving the quality of life of children with genetic disorders. Thank you very much for your generosity and support!

‘Wear it Pink’ Day

‘Wear it Pink’ Day, on 23rd October, was a big success. Staff and pupils alike arrived in school wearing stunning shades of pink incorporated into the school uniform in all sorts of creative and imaginative ways and at break, an a range of pink biscuits buns and cake were on sale. The Charity Committee are very pleased to announce that ‘Wear it Pink’ day raised over £1100 for Pretty ‘n’ Pink Breast Cancer Charity. We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who got all dressed up and supported this event.

Poppy Appeal

Once again this year, the charity committee sold poppies in support of The Royal British Legion at the beginning of November. Thanks to all who supported this appeal.

‘Bog-Eyed Jog’

This year, our annual ‘Bog-Eyed Jog’ for Children in Need took place on 19th November. Despite the cold conditions, over fifty dedicated pupils and teachers met at the sports hall early on Friday morning sporting a wide range of patterned onesies and pyjamas. Everyone was delighted to get the cooked breakfast in the canteen after running laps around the school grounds. The school raised a combined total of £700 for Children in Need – well done everyone!

Quaker Cottage Hamper Appeal

Each year during the month of December, Friends’ School supports the Quaker Cottage Hamper Appeal. The hampers we send contain a variety of basic food essentials, toiletries and household items and are distributed to disadvantaged families in North and West Belfast. A small number of small gifts for the mothers and children of the families that Quaker Cottage support are also donated and, for many, this can be the only gift they receive at Christmas. This year, we were delighted to be able to send around 96 hampers to the appeal. Thank you everyone for your kindness and generosity!

Christmas Jumper Day

On 11th December, pupils and teachers took the opportunity to spread some Christmas cheer by wearing their favourite Christmas jumper to school on this non-uniform day. We had an exciting range of jumpers, from brightly patterned ones complete with flashing lights and bells, to those with more subtle Christmas designs. In total, our festive jumpers raised a fantastic amount for two charities, £1000 for the Simon Community and £500 for Save the Children Fund. Thank you for helping to ‘make the world better with your sweater!’

I’m A Celebrity Take Me Out of Here

This year, in aid of the Northern Ireland’s Hospice, the charity committee put on their own version of two popular TV shows: I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and Take Me Out with a hardy bunch of pupils and teachers taking part in the challenges and a group of fabulous teachers competing for the hearts of Mr Timothy and Mr Bradshaw. Thank you to everyone who was involved in all the hard work and planning. We have been able to send a cheque for £1000 to the Hospice and a cheque for £600 to the Children’s Hospice

Christmas Party

The Charity Committee also had the privilege of being invited to Nicholson House care home to visit the local residents. Members of the Friends’ Singers lead the committee in song with a solo by Carlie Rosbotham which was followed by lively chatter and laughs with our hosts. Jamie Dawson made a fabulous Santa, giving out small gifts and cards to all the residents. This opportunity to reach out directly to the local community was very memorable and rewarding for all and we would like to thank Nicholson House for having us.

Home-Start Bag-Pack

On 21st December and 23rd December, a group of year 12 and 13 pupils volunteered to help out with bag-packs in Tesco for the Home Start charity and Trussell Trust food bank. This was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to join together in serving the local community and to help others in a practical way. Thank you to all those who helped out! Once again, thank you to all who have supported the Charity Committee in our bog-eyed jogging, hamper-packing and festive jumper-wearing campaigns so far this year! Particular thanks must go to Mr Moore and Mrs Leaker for their continued help and support for our work.
