Curriculum

The Key Stage 3 CCEA Home Economics curriculum introduces students to essential life skills, focusing on healthy eating, personal finance, and home management. It encourages practical learning through cooking and budgeting activities, promoting an understanding of nutrition, food safety, and wise consumer choices for a balanced lifestyle.

In Years 11 and 12, pupils follow the CCEA GCSE Food and Nutrition specification, building on KS3 skills. This dynamic course blends theory with practical lessons, exploring food science and nutrition. In Year 12, pupils complete a controlled assessment, worth 50% of the grade, enhancing research, critical thinking, and cookery skills.

In CCEA Nutrition and Food Science AS units, students study macronutrients, micronutrients, and dietary guidelines for different life stages. AS Unit 2 covers research on diet, lifestyle, and health. At A2, students focus on food safety and quality, and complete a related research project.

Students in Years 10, 11, and 12 enjoyed a cookery demonstration presented by The Livestock and Meat Commission. They also have the opportunity to enter the Springboard Future Chef competition.

Additionally, GCSE and A-level students visited Draynes Farm to learn about milk processing and the safety procedures in place.
