Anya Cunningham

Everyone in the Friends’ School Community was deeply saddened to learn of the passing this week of one of our pupils, Anya Cunningham from Year 12.
Anya came to Friends’ School in September 2015. Throughout her time here, she epitomised the ethos of the school as captured in our motto: Quae sursum, sunt quaerite, or seek those things which are above, and she lived out the Quaker values of integrity, community and peace. Anya’s quiet diligence and good grace were evident in her achievements in the classroom, in her relationships both with her fellow pupils and her teachers, and in her impact on everyone who knew her. Academically she was gifted in a wide range of subjects and was committed to hard work and giving of her best. She never sought the limelight, but rather embodied the essence of selfless commitment in all that she was involved in.
Anya found great enjoyment with her friends in sport and music, excelling in both. This season she was a loyal member of the 3rd XI hockey team and previously served as vice-captain of the U14Bs. Her love of music was obvious; this was equalled with her flair and musicality as a pianist, in which she performed at Grade 8 level, and as a member of the Senior Choir. The entire Friends’ School community deeply mourns the loss of a lovely young lady, who had a bright future. We extend our deepest sympathy to her parents Andrew and Lorraine, to her brother Ewan, and to her wider family and many friends.

  • Welcome to Friends' School Lisburn online.
Friends’ is one of nine Quaker schools in Britain and Ireland and shares a common heritage with each of them. Although the School has grown and changed since its foundation in 1774, the Quaker belief in care for the individual and in the importance of the development of each person's potential remains central to our ethos and helps us to cater successfully for the different traditions in the Lisburn area. We hope you enjoy exploring our website and finding out more about what goes on in School. Stephen Moore, Principal
